Vijay's Puducherry Pongal

[Friday, January 15, 2010]

Vijay played a perfect host at a fishing hamlet in Puducherry a couple of days ago, as the actor treated to a feast close to 2,500 people as part of Pongal celebrations.

The 'Ilaya Thalapathy', who was busy shooting for his 50th film 'Sura' near Hanumanthaiah Kuppam in the Union Territory, wanted to reciprocate to the love and affection showered on him by the locals.

And Pongal turned out to be an apt reason for it, circles close to him say and add: "Many wanted Vijay to visit their homes and dine once. As it is impossible to individually visit all the houses, he organised a feast and invited them all with their families to it. What's more, he served them food and ate with them."

Interacting with the Fisherfolk, Vijay said he is happy to play a fisherman in the film. "Fishing community is always close to my heart. Your fight for survival is a lesson to everyone," the actor told them.

Vijay will target awards: SAC

IndiaGlitz [Monday, January 11, 2010]

Vijay would soon shed his 'commercial hero' image and act in films that have more importance for storylines, if his father and filmmaker S A Chandrasekaran is to be believed.

"Vijay is planning to act in different kind of roles. The movies he would act post 2011 would have strong storylines, aimed at bagging awards," Chandrasekaran reportedly said, while talking to journalists near Athur in Dindigul district.

Accepting that Vijay is currently following 'Rajini style' by acting in movies that have commercial ingredients, the veteran director said his son is however planning to take a different path from next year.

He also claimed Vijay's recent offing 'Vettaikkaran' a smash hit and said no producer had suffered losses by making films starring Vijay. 'Vettaikkaran' has set new records, he said.
